The summit.
Again, a mast and a big cairn. This is a small range of hills in the far east of Co Cavan. A popular beauty spot for the people of Kingscourt and Bailieborough, the name is strange, there is no lough. There was once a pool up here with no visible inlet or outlet..
The lough was like a lot of pools a pagan place of pilgramage, this was of course taken over by Christians, and the traditions of healing powers continued into modern times. Now the lough has finaly dried up and is just a piece of marshy land.
The ascent is easy, a road goes near the top and a short drive up a rough track to the telephone masts leaves a five minute walk to the top. The view even on a foul day like this one, is wide over the vast drumlin fields of Cavan and Monaghan.
With Sleive Glah and Mount Oriel, Lough an Leagh was visited whilst driving for the ferry after a stay in Drumshanbo Co. Leitrim.
Clements and Hewitt list the hill as Mohercrom in their list of Irish Marilyns.
