Map: Creag Ruadh ![]()
Another very short day in the Laggan area. This hill, not even named by the OS, Creag Ruadh is a convenience name, looks very ordinary on the map. However it carries a large area of old open forest and has a very fine ridge to the north east that forces is its way through vigorous birch regeneration.
When you have made the none too ardeous ascent you get a fine reward, especially if you are a Monarch of the Glen fan. This is the ultimate Ardverikie view point. Glens radiate from this hill and as well as the obvious charms of Lochan na h-Earba and Loch Laggan, this hill gives fine views of some hills that are normally rather retiring. Beinn na Lap looks very fine from here.
I intend to return and try the southern approaches, the forest here looks very inviting. It will not be on a misty day.
