South of Loch Ness there is
a very rugged group of craggy hills and big lochs. An area that
is well worth a visit and away from the usual hill round.
Tom Bailgeann is an ideal quickie,
but has suffered a mast and a very badly built bulldozed road
to the summit. Cheap, steep and very nasty, it is going to erode
into something very horrible. Fortunately on this occasion it
was frozen up and gave easy going.
The summit is a mystery. The
1:50 000 map only showa one top, but there is another to the
north. This appears to be higher, but is surveyed at 462m. Even
if lower its worrth going over as you get a view of the Loch
from here. Not as good a view as from Beinn a'Bhacaidh but well
worth a look. No mast either.
