Meall Mor from above the A9. The higher summit is on the right.
The summit ridge, and easy angled crag. Looking North to the North Top (Kiwi grafitti artist?).
Ben Wyvis in the background.
The summit, Loch Moy and, f ar right, the snows of Cairngorm. Map: Meall Mor One of those coincidences, two hills called Meall Mor, a common enough name, and both 492m high. Bizzarely I had intended to walk up Carn na-h-Easgain, but drove past the start layby on the A9 so wandered up this easy and enjoyable hill instead a. Strangely my last hill was the Rannoch Meall Mor.
The hill overlooks Culloden Moor and was also the scene of a Jacobite skirmish a few weeks before the End. It is now dominated by the A9, but well screened by a pine wood. If you find the path the hill is easy, but dont be surprised if you flounder in the heather. The secret is to go for the stile by the phone mast.
A great way to spend an hour's break from the long haul on the A9.
