On Cat Law

 Cat Law from Wester Lednathie

A boundary stone, summit hag in the background.

 Trig and, right, the summit.

 Looking east from the summit.

Ascent of Corwharn, Cat Law in the background.

 Corwharn.

The Corwharn cairn, just below the unmarked summit.

Glen Uig. A meltwater channel and a very scenic end to the day. Notice the arrival of the snow.

Easy wandering over typical Mounth dry grouse moors. The weather forecast for the west was pretty horrid, so we hid in the snow shadow in the south eastern corner of the Highlands.

Cat Law is one of the highest hills on the Highland Fault but otherwise little commented on. There is an on the edge feel to it with fine views down to rich farmland in one half and seemingly endless moorland in the other. The Munro summits were snowcapped and the Glen Prosen pair of Mayar and Dreish very prominant.

The summits of both hills are unmarked, Cat Law has a trig point just below the summit, placed to exploit that view, and Corwharn a fine stone man just below its summit.

Corwarn is about 260m of heather bashing from the deep glen that separates it from Cat Law, and for the whole time on the hill it snowed. We were well covered by the time we emerged from sinuous Glen Uig. Even if you dont do the hills, this glen should be visited - a bit like a grand version of a Long Mynd hollow.
