Overlooking the Corran Ferry,
this must have been an imprtant watch point for keeping an eye
on ship traffic in days gone by. We went up from the pass through
to Loch Lunn da Bhra and this proved to be a very steep ascent
on the sort of moss that does not stay attatched to the hill.
Its better to head further north and use the corregated rakes
that cross the slope.
Beinn na Gucaig is made of slate
and this gives some good going - in the upper reaches only. Lower
down , especially on the south ridghe its a different story.
Forget gentle downhill strolls looking into the sunset, this
is seriously rough country, Jura rough. A quadbike track helps
- a little. There is little grazing because of the forest, and
the old trees are making a comeback in places, but the tussocks
and bogs are unbelievable.
