Carn Gorm, after the passing of a blizzard, seen from below Meall Garbh.

The remains of the trig point. Was OK in 1987, last time I called by. Beinn Dearg and spindrift from Carn Gorm. ![]()
Carn Gorm from the edge of Rannoch Forest.Almost always done from Invervar as part of a four Munro haul, but quite easy from the north, especially if a bike is used to get up the forest road approaches. Both my visits have been from the North and I have heard good things of ascents from Camusvrackan as well. Expect some soft going in the gentle northern corries.
Today a four munro haul was not the best of ideas, the biggest haul was keeping attached to the hill in the force of squally blizzards and very high winds, the short traverse from the shelter of the fallen trig point to the summit will not be forgotten, as was the sheer misery of putting on the overtrousers at the summit of Meall Garbh. An Sgor was bypassed this time by a path. Munro Baggers are not too keen on tops now, by the looks of it.
The day started pleasantly enough, easy cycling up to NN620543 followed by arougher track to the edge of the woods. Easy angled slopes to the tundra summit. Trouble struck at the summit of Meall Garbh which is now a jumble of stobs from the old fence. I remember the fence up here bing used as trials obstacle on my first visit in 1981. No photos, I was being sandblasted.
Was able to see on the easy ascent of Carn Gorm, but the wind was wild. The uk.rec.walking winter skills weekend punters were getting full value for money on a hill near by. A man emerged from the mist asking if this was the way down, my reply as to where he was descending to was not appreciated, everyone comes up from Invervar right?
