Tucked away in the forest and on the very edge of Sheet 78 of the OS 1:50000, you can be forgiven for not noticing this heathery lump. Its an easy side trip from the Southern Upland Way, or you can make a half day of it from the rather lovely Wamphray Water to the south. Parking is a problem, and you will have to walk along the road to Laverhay. Follow the forest access road to the right, just before the farm. The ridge up the left hand side of the glen is hard going and very tussocky, but avoids the trees and embraces the views. From the summit, head south to the well built cairn for the view down to Annandale. If returning to Laverhay, descend to the forest edge from the cairn, and then follow the tree edge to the left to find a ride down to the nearest forest road. |
