Cademuir Hill from the east, in Glentress Forest.

The Summit. Deep within the gloom, sits an old cairn.

Most people know cademuir as an airy sheepwalk. The open hill from the forest edge.

Cademuir is a fine open hill with windblown grass and a hill fort, a popular outing from Peebles. The highest point however is buried within a very dark plantation, shunted to one side and shunned by most sensible visitors.

I have walked and run over Cademuir in the past, but now all I had time for was a quick bagging raid, I was on my way to a wedding in Rosslyn Chapel. An short rough ascent through the raspberries in the clearing and straight up the brutal southern slopes using an old fire break.

A few years ago I failed on account of taking a wrong turn in the forest, this time I was armed with a 20 year old orienteering map showing the ride pattern.

It cannot be too long before the summit area is felled. Trees still there in September 2004
