Also known as Arnton Fell, the hill bisects the two arms of upper Liddlesdale and inevitably is partially forested. The hill is a landmark on the route of the Waverley Line and Riccarton Junctionis situated on its northern col. The trigpoint at the southern end is a very good viewpoint and a very easy walk up from the trackbed. I returned via a ride system to the old railway. The rides used are marked on the OS maps by the purple line used to show FC land. A rare example of the plague being useful.

The open sections of the hill are grazed by cattle and this has meant a lot of electric fences. No problem for the tall and confident, but most would be better getting up through the forest. There is a crossing point of the summit fence just south of the top where the purple plague ride exits. The summit is on the forest side, just north of the cairn.
