Mochrum Fell from the south.

The summit, in its own little clearing. I doubt it will be long before this part of the forest is felled.

An old grown out beech hedge on the southern slopes. Old farm relics are often found in spruce plantations.

Map: Mochrum Fell.

A hill with a reputation. Supposedly guarded by a fearome sitka jungle, it was reputed to be the most fearsome forested summit. Its not. The forest is runnable and its quite easyto get to the top, if you can find it. I got lost on the way down, and had to resort to turning on a GPS receiver in a clearing. This is the most lost I have ever been on a hill.

The forest roads around the hill are accessable from the south, and you can park behind Mochrum House, leaving a steep and enjoyable ascent to the summit clearing. Forestry work will soon alter the picture however and you may get a view from the top.

The road in from Marnhoul in the north , although not barred by locked gates, is now impassable to ordinary vehicles due to forestry work.
