Brown Carrick hill is a sprawling moor above Ayr. It is famed for the Electric Brae at Croy on the Southwestern slopes. An optical ilusion makes it appear that things roll uphill.

Real uphill can be found on the National Cycle Route that takes the minor road over the hill. A short deviation to the masts and the true summit a quater of a mile beyond.

Good views of Ailsa Craig and Arran.

Afterwards I made a trip to Lady Isle off Troon. This was in support of Dave Hewitt's trig point collecting. He was after the 6m trig point on this small speck of gabbro. Trig baggers should note that this place is seabird city and should be avoided in spring/summer.

It was inhabited by inquisitive seals and vast flocks of teal on our visit.
