Stronend from above Fintry.
Route from Fintry passes the Culcreuch Castle Hotel.

Above the castle, a view to Earls Seat over Fintry.

The basalts weather into rich soils, good grazing on the drained slopes, but a sour bog on the plateau.

We met the shepherd on the way down, he complained about the weather. What he made of the winter of 2002, I dont know.

 The summit

Across the plateau to Meikle Bin.

Aptly named, as the Gargunnock escarpment forms agreat prow above Flanders Moss. From up there you get a spacious view over the Trossachs and Loch Lomond.

On two sides long rows of crags fall away in the classic trap formation, A walk along a dry terrace between the tiers is rewarding. Its like the Yorkshire dales, dry fertile rabbity slopes and a boggy tussock moor on the top.

The crags can be breached with care in several places, but an easy ascent can be made from Culcreuch Castle in Fintry .

The fertility shows, this is as green a hill as you will ever see.
