The hills of South Uist
are very rugged and provide some good walking. The northernmost
of the two main groups contains the high Beinn Mhor with its
fine ridge as well as two other very good hills. On this trip
I visited Beinn Corradail (Corrodale) as well as the island high
point.
From Howmore a small rough
section of bogland is crossed before the land gets rocky and
dryer. Firstly seep Corradail was climbed by a good scramble.
Beinn Mhor was much easier, but the ridge looked narrow. It is
however an easy walk and very enjoyable. The views were good,
but the great weather experienced in North Uist and Knoydart
had now gone.
Beinn Mhor was my 99th hill
with 2000' of drop so I was approaching the prominance maillist's
century club. |
