Taransay with Beinn Ra(lright ) from Beinn Dhubh. The prominant spit is Corran Ra. You can also see the St Kilda peaks on the horizon.

An island bagging trip, taking in Scarp, Taransay and The Shiants organised by Rob Woodhall.

After Scarp, we returned to Tarbert to rejoin Murray and his boat at Tarbert for a very enjoyable blast down the West Loch to Taransay. This was an easier island than Scarp, less swell, a pontoon to land at and a gentle hill.

Other than being easy angled, Beinn Ra is Ceapabhal's twin. Only in this case it is on an island, although the spit at Corran Ra suggests that Taransay's island status may not be permanent.

After the easy landing the machair soon gave way to bog and gneiss, but very easy walking. After a summit tea, we all split up and went to other parts of the island. Some went to the 000 000 grid reference on the southern section of the twin island, others strolled back to Paible with its restored buildings, and Frances and I went for a swim at Ra. It was very cold.

Strange that we had come from Scarp that day, as Ra was used by a film crew as a stand in for Scarp in Rocketman. Some props were still around.

We travelled to Taransay with Sea Trek
