Scarp, across the Kyle, seen from the Crabhadail path.

Landing on the north of the island. Expert timing needed to jump off between waves.

A steep scramble is required above the beach.

Loads of fun available on rough gneiss.

The Summit. The weather had turned by now, but the sun was to return on Taransay, in the afternoon.

An island bagging trip, taking in Scarp, Taransay and The Shiants organised by Rob Woodhall.

First stop Scarp. An exilerating ride across Caolas Scarp, the shallow tide race that makes visiting the island so difficult was followed by big swells and a dramatic landing on what must be one of the finest beaches anywhere. The beach got better when we found that the only way past the machair was a big scrambly slope with loads of lovely rock.

Sadly the summit was cloudy and we missed the view, but it was rather enjoyable being on such a prized summit. The descent on the village side was easy and we had plenty of time to take in the islands other top, Beinn Fo Thuath, before dropping down the the village, now a collection of ruins and holiday houses.

We travelled to Scarp with Sea Trek
