Muirneag, from a lochan on the Lewis moors.

More boglands.

Loch Scarasdail and Muirneag.

Ascending soft mossy slopes above Loch Bhata Cuil. Beyond, endless peatlands.

 Even the summit is peatbound.
After the hill we visited the nearby Garry beach, (Traigh Ghearadha)
  Map

Muirneag is the only hill in the vast peaty wastes of North Lewis. It also conspires to plonk itself right in the middle of the north tip of the island. That means you are going to get your feet wet, before wallowing in some of the deepest moss anywhere.

A trip up Muirneag will give a true appreciation of the nature of the island, and is the perfect complement to a day at Uig or amongst the Harris Hills. The view is of miles of dun moor dotted with trout infested lochs.

Fishermen will enjoy this hill, and stack climbers should visit the beach at Garry.
