A pair of hills, one in Lewis and one in Harris. Cearnabhal is an easy stroll over typical Long Isle rock and peat to a cairn above Loch Langavat , most of the way is along a good estate road (ample parking at the end). Liuthaid , the highest summit of the massive Mullach Bhiogadail is a different matter. Back across the road and up the steepist bog imaginable. A direct descent here is not a good idea, as staying on ones feet is not easy and it is very steep. Soggy slopes lead more safely to the road in a SE direction, but hit the Langavat road above the waterfalls. The whole slope is very wet and green and was no doubt favoured for its grazing. In mitigation the views down Loch Seaforth and across Lewis are exceptional, but you will get wet and muddy getting them. |
