Map: Meall nan Damh

Maybe these two are a little tame for Ardgour, but Meall nan Damh still has a fine rocky ridge around the back and a good selection of native woodland around its slopes. Add Glas Bheinn and you have a great wee circuit that gives a satisfying big hill day.

Callop is even more accessable now, as there is a car park with a handy picnic table just off the road. From here the wooded and boggy Callop Glen path gives two choiced for Meall nan Damh. Either along the north ridge, or stay in the glen and up the the very rocky west ridge. The West top is currently the inferior top of this symmetrical hill , so its a quick walk to the uncairned east top for the summit. Great view over to Ben Nevis from here, today there was an inversion for added effect.

Glas Bheinn has several tops after the plod up its bovine flanks. Notice the difference in soil fertility between the two hills. Green Damh and vbrown heathery Glas Bheinn. As for the summit, take your pick.. The OS now says its a weterly lump, I think its still the trig. Visit both.

Forestry complicates the return. I plumped for a visit to the pine woods below Damh, and a return to the Callop Glen path at the foot of the Damh north ridge. This adds a bit of ascent to the day, but the wooded burns are rather lovely.
