A wet round of these steep scree covered hills on Good Friday.

Glamaig has a terrible reputation for seepness and scree. Going up the Northeast ridge is a relatively easy way round this. You do not have to start of Sligachan.

Glamaig is a basalt hill, and is like a gentle version of the Black Cuillin across Glen Sligachan. This is reflected in its fertility, the vegetation grows profusely and no paths scar the hill. After a brutal drop and reascent the granophyre Beinn Dearg is a different beast. Probably more popular, it has a very well defined path over it.

Ptarmigan live at a low altitude on these hills and Beinn Dearg is well covered in juniper scrub. It is infact wooded right up to the summit, but the 'trees' are flush with the screes. Tread carefully.
