The summit with the Caithness Hills to the north

Map: Beinn Dubhain

Another easily overloooked hill, but a great view point. Accessable by train too, so if you are heading up or down the line from the North, and want a taste of Scottish wild hill country for little effort , this could be your hill. Also some historic interest as there was a gold rush here too, and briefly a small town appeared on its eastern side (Baile an Or on the OS map)

I went up from Duible. If you go this way, the farmer requests that you stick to the West bank of the burn, and cross over once above the wood on the map. The East bank is their lambing enclosure.

Once above the fences its a matter of looking for the burnt heather patches. The summit dome is crisp tundra.
