A rough
hill tucked away south of Strathcarron. Many
approach from the north, but I went for the long and mostly easy
way in up Glen Calvie. As always walking through the lodge area
is intimidating, but this estate is friendly and as a bonus very
well looked after. The new woods are comming on a treat. Even
with its sad history Glen Calvie is always a pleasure to walk
up.
There are now some new tracks
not marked on the map, and one of these runs half a mile towards
the hill off the main drag to Strathrusdale. (gr 506854). This
helps a little, but soon the bog and heather take over and its
a relief to reach the craggy summit area when the grey granite
takes over.
The summit is a cleft block
of granite, a pinnacle of sorts, that out tops the the trig by
2 - 4 metres. Quite an exiting summit.
Returned by the ruin at Salachie
and a new road that comes out at Calvie Lodge. Be careful, there
are fences about, especially by the gorge below Salachie. These
are for native tree regeneration. There are gates and stiles.
Please use them. |
