Heavy snowfalls had thwarted all attempts to do big hills. Many roads were impassable and the going, once a parking palce could be found, painfully slow. I decided to go for hills with forest roads on them, but this one was tough. All roads were rutted by forestry operations and the going was hard with few downhill runs possible. Trail breaking was agony. It was very cold and tracks in the open were rapidly filled in.

I went up from Edderton village and fell foul of a mapping error. Not all the roads are continuous and you may meet high fences. A goodroute is to go in from Upper Bogrow, once the forestry work has finished. Every track is bedecked with that rather offensive hand in a red circle sign. Nobody about at New Year though and the whole trip was done in fresh untracked snow. A lot of birds about includina a fair few Black grouse, and some very bright bullfinches.

I returned to Upper Bogrow, but fell foul of ruts and walked the last bit through the trees. The run down the road was fun on tractor tracks. Paparazzi should take note, you can see Skibo Castle very clearly from the Bogrow road.
