Beinn Ghobhlach is the much
admired hill across Loch Broom from Ullapool. Its a bit of a
journey to get at it, and the hill feels higher than 635m. We
went up from the highpoint of the Badrallach road, a route only
advisable during a deep frost. The frozen bog made for good progress,
but it has all the appearance of being an evil swamp in normal
conditions.
Cnoc a'Bhaid-rallaich is a good
hill in its own right, and there is a fair drop down to the pass
between the two hills. The views were rather fine, as would be
expected this far out on a peninsula with An Teallach as a neighbour.
This was a windy day and the
summit cold was intense. All thoughts of wandering around the
summit arc were quickly abandoned for genuine fear of frostbite,
so no views down on the Summer Isles.
