The afternoon after Carn Breac,
and another jaw dropping viewpoint. Bidein Clann Raonaild will
not win any admiring glances itself. This is real Hall of
Shame country, but any hill perched at the end of Loch Maree
or Glen Torridon has to be worth a visit for views.
These have to be unusual pictures,
anyone with any sense would be up one of the good hills on a
day like this. But when you have both got colds, a short wander
up a small hill is just the job. Only after Carn Breac, I felt
like another outing to see the sunset. Bidein Clann Raonaild
, with its road, fitted the 3pm start perfectly.
The road is built to a high
standard, but is blocked by an awkward gate. A shorter route
is to go up across rough moorland from the head of Glen Docherty.
Cross the moor to meet the road and stroll on up to the summit.
If you can get past the gate, this would be a good hill to take
a bike up, any bike.
The view is not as good as the
one from Carn Breac, the summit mess spoils it, and the plateau
is rather broad. As well as Torridon: Slioch, Fisherfield, Fionn
Bheinn and the Fannaichs are all well displayed. A good hill
for an evening visit at any time of the year.
