There is a triangle of land between the Beauly Firth , Glen
Urquart and Loch Ness. It is a rolling plateau of forest and
rough farmland, and until now I had never been there. Amongst
the forests are several well appointed cottages, Inverness is
near and this is an ideal place to live if you want to be outside
the city.
The highest point of this area is Carn a'Bhoideach above steep
slopes plunging into and below Loch Ness. A lot of effort is
avoided by an approach from a minor road to the northwest. A
rough track, mostly underwater due to the horrendous thaw, gets
you most of the way.
The summit area saw an attempt at forestry planting. This
failed and there are just a few surviving stunted trees. You
still get an amazing view into the great Inverness-shire glens. |
