Auchtertyre Hill 452m. Lochalsh, Section 12a
OS 1:50000 sheet 33 GR NG832289
9th January 2003

The steep west face of Auchtertyre Hill.

 The summit.

The eastern approaches. Not so steep, but very boggy. The very prominent hill is Sgumain Coinntich.

Another rest day, and although still cold, much duller. The hill is very well placed with views up Loch Duich and the Kyles. From the west a new forest road allows a look prom Balmacarra Square, but the west side of the hill is very steep and craggy.

A steep ridge and a couple of gullies through the crags was the easy bit. The plateau turned out to be dried out sphagnum and tussock, really horrid going. The view was worth the effort though.

As usual when in Lochaslh and Kintail we stayed at Tigh Iseabail hostel in Camusluinie.
