Tor Achilty 256m. Strathconon, Section 12a
OS 1:50 000 Sheet 26 : NH447551
Baggers Album ->Scotland->12a->Achilty
The summit of Tor Achilty. Its raining in Strathconon
Wyvis above the wild woods.
Map: Tor Achilty A well kent landmark at the mouth of Strathconon. This is Contin's Hill.
Many will be tempted by the short steep ascent from the dam. Resist and approach from Loch Achilty. Its hard, the navigation is interesting (I first visited this hill during the 1986 British Orienteering Championships), but the forest is straight out of Norway. Gnarly dwarf birks will trip you, you will also see wildflower meadows and a frustration of false summits.
Loch Achilty is Scotland's answer to AW Wainwrights 'Jaws of Borrowdale', and the Tor is a Castle Crag. It's gorgeous, enjoy it!
