Another fine day in a somewhat
unusual hill area. The moors north of Loch Ness have no high
hills, and is , with the obvious exception of Meall Fuar-mhonaidh,
more the territory of fishermen than hill walkers. Its a fine
piece of country, a rough plateau with many tops and lochans.
Access is easy because of the
work of the Hydro, there are numerous roads, but travel off road
is arduous. Chreathaich is well placed between two branches of
the track originating at Bhlairaidh in Glen Moriston and this
makes a good circuit , perhaps better done on a long day during
the fishing season.
The hill is small, but very
steep, and the descent to Loch a'Chrathaich was very icy. The
going east of Loch a'Chrathaich was much easier than walking
along Loch ma Stac, its best to keep high (unless fishing of
course)
A big feature of this day, was
the unusual views. You are a long way east here and familiar
hillsare not easily identified on a first visit. The views are
very fine.
