The summit .

Glen Affric and Carn Fiachlach from the lower summit.

Carn Mhic an Toisich from the southern slopes. Some idea of the interminable moorland of the Morriston side,

Carn Mhic an Toisich(left) and Carn Chaochain from Loch Liath, to the east.

Map: Carn a'Chaochain

The great hills of Glen Affric decline as you travel towards the Great Glen. Eventually the hills are low tops above lochan dotted plateau. Somewhere between the plateau and the corries of Conbhairean is Carn a'Chaochain.

Its a short ascent from the North, but I went in from Glen Morriston, my route shared with a Trials event at the start, but rapidly dissapearing into the forest alongside one of the best swimming hole burns I know. The bogs and moors to the summit went on a bit.

Its worth touring the tops for the great view of Strath Glass and Glen Affric, this is the wee hill pay off, great views of big hills. Carn a'Chaochain from the south is no soft option though. Folk wanting an easy life should try some of the pathed Munros here about.
