Carnan Cruithneachd from Glen Elchaig.
The falls of Glomach at the head of a very wild gorge. The best approach to the hill. ![]()
Looking back down the gorge from above the falls. And again in summer. Looking back down to Glen Elchaig from near the summit. The summit. Carnan Cruithneachd from above the Glomach gorge. The Pict's hill. Not named after Robbie, but overlooking his battleground. This is the forgotten hill of Kintail, where even the Corbetts are busy. Carnan Cruithneachd is a supurb rocky rough hill with a fine , rarely seen north face and a share in the Falls of Glomach. Quality.
Whilst it is usualy ascended from the remains of Dorusduain, bulldozed by the estate, the hill is best done from Elchaig to the north. This is a long day but allows a visit to the falls by the amazing exposed gorge and descent by the good path to the west of the hill. A bike is a good idea, or do as I did and stay at Willie's bunkhouse at Camus Luinie.
The hill is very rugged and scramblers are well catered for.
