Beinn a Chapuill is probably
best descrioed as Beinn Sgritheal with the top sliced off. It
has a confusing plateau with many tops. There have been hopes
that a resurvey would find one over 2500', but the current consensus
is that the highest point is the nearest to the top of the other
great feature of the hill, the long North-east Ridge.
The ridge is the obvious eay
up and is a typical grassy Rough Bounds ridge, never narrow and
with steep rocky sides that fail to give anything climbable.
The Glen Beag side is very steep and the site of a big landslip.
The ridge is fissured and there are some big boulder fields below.
Its worth walking over to the
southern summit (the one with the spot height on the OS map.)
for a very fine view over Skye and the Small Isles.
The bridge mapped at the foot
of the ridge has collapsed, and has been replaced by a few larch
logs. Its crossable but scarey looking. On this occasion I walked
across the ice, I was lucky, the river rarely freezes and can
be a serious obstacle.
