Baggers Album->England->41->Swyre

Swyre Head(left) from St Aldhem's Head

 The Summit. The obviously artificial tumulus can be seen behind the trig. The true height of the hill is approx 204m.

 The usual approach to Swyre Head. Normally this is close cropped sheep grazed downland, but not this year.

 The westward view to Kimmeridge and Portland.

 And eastward to Houns Tout and Encombe.

One of the two controversial Purbeck marilyns. Sadly this fine hill will almost certainly get returned to the subbies list. Do it anyway. It gets in on account of the huge tumulus. This so obviously artificial and out of character on a vast flat top, that it will even harden Alan's heart.

Anorak corner over, its a great wee walk/ride through GOML country on a fortunate bridle path. The summit is grudgingly fenced in, but you still get to see the views along the coast to Portland. One for a summer's evening, or a lazy picnic afternoon. Remember to take lashings of ginger beer.

A perfect English hill.
