Nine Barrow Down 200m Isle of Purbeck, Section 41
OS 1:50 000 Sheet 184 : SZ008811

2nd June 2001
Baggers Album->England->41->NineBarrow

Nine Barrow Down and Swanage.

 The pinnacle at the end of Ballard Down. Old Harry is just visible. Amazingly this was my first experience of chalk sea cliffs. Steep or What. Mick Fowler was not in situ.

 The Trig point, I was standing on a slightly higher piece of downland.

The southernmost trig in Nick Crane's 2 Degrees.

Sadly it is no longer with us. Some believe it was removed to deter bagging.Last seen on its side with the brass stolen

One of the two controversial Purbeck marilyns. It gets its 150m independence courtesy of a railway cutting at Harman's Cross. This separates the hill from the even more dubious, but lovely Swyre Head.

That's the anorak bit over with. Other than a nondescript improved grassland summit, this hill gives a great walk. A very popular walk, especially Ballard Down, the seaward extension. We did a circuit from near the Sandbanks Ferry, taking in Studland Beach, Old Harry and an evening with the nightjars by the Agglestone.

In 2003 it was reported that the trig point had been removed. First it was dug up and taken to one side of the field and later theflush bracket was stolen.
