The path up the south ridge.

The summit. The highpoint is either where I am standing or at the thicket in the centre.

Is this the ultimate cute Southern English hill? Its a real beauty covered by mixed woodland and bluebell glades.Loads of birds and wildflowers, you can return to the Dorset of Hardy up here. Sunken lanes lined with grown out beech hedges lead up to the hillfort and flat top that is the highest point in Dorset.

The geology is similar to Leith Hill, below the chert cap and steep greensand slopes is a band of clay that has produced a springline with some juicy bogs. An approach from the south avoids them.

The summit view is restricted by the trees, but is particularly fine over towards the sea in the south.
