Boulsworth Hill, is the highest point of the moors between Haworth, Hebden Bridge and Nelson. The summit is firmly in Lancashire and is one or other of several outcrops of gritstone, set in a bog. Sadly some idiot has made a 'permissive path' up the west side (The Yorkshire moorland gives good keeper dodging sport). As a result of this waymarking a badly eroded path tracks straight up the steep slope rather than in kinder zig-zags. This is a wet place and is best done in a frost or drought. I went up at the start of a prolonged cold spell and enjoyed the first snow of the winter. Lower down, nearer Trawden the frost had lifted and things got very squelchy underfoot. |
