After Mickle Fell, I spent an evening on the traditional Durham summit, (and in the pub in Garrigill). Burnhope Seat is a quicky from the very high Alston Middleton Road, and is very much Englands answer to Cairnwell, the ascent is up beside a ski tow. The summit is a pretty non descript part of the fell, just north of a fence. The trig point is the more attractive destination, and a fine viewpoint over Weardale. This is the Durham county top. One last feature, the evil bog between the summit and the trig. Can you find the shortest route? Long/triple jump skills an advatage. |
