  Wreckage of S1553.

Tucked away in the "point" of Cumberland and surrounded by the Kielder complex of forestry is some very rough fell land. This is as wild as it gets in England, and provided a short slow walk to a fine gritstone summit. The trig pillar is accompanied by a ruined companion, a very early 1930's construction, Its number was s1553.

The Bewcastle hunt were in the forest so there was a fair bit of noise. The foxes had a good day by all accounts. On my return, lost dogs would occasionally pop out from under the trees. The fell was deserted.

Fine views to Cold Fell and the pinnacle on Christianberry Crags.
